Darrell (Mush) Phillips Mersereau

Mersereau, Darrell (Mush) Mersereau, of Fredericton Junction, NB passed away at the Oromocto Public Hospital on July 24, 2016 at the age of 88. Born in Fredericton to the late Blanche (O’Leary) and Donald P. Mersereau, and husband of late Margaret Ann (Bolden) Mersereau.

 

Mush, as he was known to all his friends, was a graduate of Civil Engineering at UNB, class of 1948. In May of 1949, he married Margaret Ann (Boldon) and after a few small construction projects moved to Shawinigan Water and Power Company as Structural Engineer.  In 1964, Mush moved his family to Inuvik, NWT, there he was Regional Engineer for the Government of Canada, shortly after becoming District Engineer. Mush loved the North, spending most of his engineering career as Regional Director with the NWT Government, there he directed the implementation of all Territorial Government programs in the Fort Smith Region taking in an area of 400,000 sq. miles and 20 communities. By 1985 Mush and Margaret retired back to New Brunswick where he took on smaller construction jobs, volunteering his talents as an Engineer and storytelling to the communities, including the Sunbury West Historical Society.

  

Mush is survived by his daughter Peggy Ann Mersereau (Straty Demakos), sons: John Mersereau, Donald (Faye) Mersereau, Thomas Mersereau, sister; Reta Bunbury,  several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and wife, Mush is predeceased by his sister; (Bonnie) Ellen Yvonne Christian and Brother-in-law; Robert Christian.

Although there will be no visitation there will be a memorial service and interment at a later date.
