Mersereau, H. Lloyd, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2016 at Hospice House in Fredericton with his family by his side. Born on February 8, 1922, he was the son of the late Manzer and Alma (Patchell) Mersereau, and was predeceased by his first wife, Louise (McNally) and second wife, Nora (Taylor) (Cole).

He is survived by daughters, Susan Knorr (Wayne) and Sharis Mersereau, step-daughter, Carol Springer (Weldon) and step-son, Dan Cole, as well as grandchildren, Jenna and Erica Knorr, and step-grandchildren, Jeff Springer (Shannon), Sheldon Springer (Margo), and Theresa Springer (Peter Ovington). He had five step-great grandchildren, Thomas, Sam, Simon, Jessie and Madeline. 

He is also survived by brothers-in-law, Hugh (Shirley) McNally, John (Judy) McNally, Hazen McNally, and Brian (Hannah) McNally, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins, including Dorothy (“Dot”) Moore, who was very helpful to Lloyd’s family in his later years.

Lloyd was the last surviving member of his immediate family, having been predeceased by his siblings Hazel, George, Fred, Ford, Bill, Pearl Bell, and Annie Moore. He was also predeceased by nephews William and Nelson Moore and as well as brothers-in-law George Bell and Cliff Moore.

Lloyd was born in Hoyt, NB and grew up on the family farm. He worked as a labourer and a carpenter, as well as grader operator for the NB Department of Transportation. Over the years, he enjoyed fishing, softball, camping, and playing cards. He loved animals, especially his dog Doyle. A lover of maple syrup, Lloyd often shared memories of the family sugar shack. He could often be found helping with community activities.  

He also had a love of travel, visiting both Walt Disney World in Florida and Disneyland in California. Some of his favourite trips were to Newfoundland, Hawaii, the Rockies and British Columbia.  He also enjoyed travelling to see ball games. He was lucky enough to attend a Dodgers game in Los Angeles, several Expos games in Montreal and a Red Sox game in Boston. He was a loyal fan of the Toronto Blue Jays, travelling twice to Toronto to see them play.

As per Lloyd’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held at Sunbury Funeral Home in Central Blissville on Monday May 16 at 2pm. Burial will follow at the Blissville Cemetery in Hoyt. A reception will be held at the Blissville Church Hall after the burial.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Lloyd’s memory can be made to Hospice House in Fredericton, the Oromocto and Fredericton SPCA, or a charity of the donor’s choice.  Arrangements are in the care of Sunbury Funeral Home, Central Blissville; NB (368-2413).
