Hanson. Doris Jardine (Wood) Hanson

In the early hours of November 5th, 2017, the Lord called Doris Hanson back home after a life of 96 years.  Doris was a teacher, farmer, hunter, friend, daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  A caring soul who loved literature, nature, visitors, conversation, music (but she would never sing herself!), and who dearly loved her family.    An individual who was keenly aware that she witnessed the most transformative times in modern history, while maintaining an informed yet humble perspective about her role in it. 

Doris is proudly described as “determined”.   Adopted into the Wood family in French Lake, NB as a three year old orphan from Newcastle via Waasis, she persevered through the challenging rural life of the time and through tragedy, while always maintaining a pragmatic, yet optimistic outlook on the future.  

She is celebrated by her son Robin (Lynn), grandchildren Tanya (Scott), Trevor (Crystal), Brody (Amanda), Darren, and great grandchildren Nick, Sam, Evan, Sophie, Avery and Max, and by John (Mary) Grabill, who she took in as her own.  She was predeceased by her son Larry, husband Eugene, parents Helen and Thomas S. Wood, and John’s brother, Robin Grabill.

She is also celebrated by her friends at the French Lake Baptist Church and community of French Lake, as well as those near and far whose lives she has touched.   Special thanks to White Rapids Manor in Fredericton Junction for caring for Doris in her final years.   

Visitation will be from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm on Monday November 13, with the funeral on Tuesday November 14th, 11 am officiated by Rev. Paul Thompson.   All will take place at the French Lake Baptist Church, 517 French Lake Rd, French Lake, NB.  Arrangements are in the professional and personal care of Sunbury Funeral Home, 5407 Route 101, Central Blissville, NB (368–2413).
