Betty Amelia Blizzard passed away at White Rapids Manor, Fredericton Junction, on Jan. 14, 2022. Betty was born at Rooth Station on Feb. 22, 1932, to Tyler and Jennie Harris and lived in many places as her father worked for CP Rail and her husband Tracy also worked for railroad companies. She spent her high school years in Brownville Junction, Maine and later lived in Quebec, Montana and Colombia before returning to Tracy, NB.
Betty is survived by her husband Tracy and sons Brent (Kathy), Kris (Mick), granddaughter Mica (Nicholas) McTiernan, sisters-in-law Elinor Blizzard, Marjorie Blizzard, Marlene Fallu and Rose Nixon, as well as several nieces and nephews, including beloved first niece Maureen Noble.
She was predeceased by her parents, son Clarke, brother and sister-in-law Glendon and Glenna Harris, and brothers-in-law Alfred and Milo Blizzard and John Fallu.
Betty will be missed by lifelong friends Edna Webb and Anna Cronkhite who, along with her sister-in-law Elinor, formed her nightly telephone tree. Anna and Betty met as they went up the steps on their first day at the Fredericton Business College in 1951 and became fast friends. Betty went on to teach at the College and operated a business college in Tracy NB. She also worked in many executive assistant roles in companies such as F. C. Alexander and Quebec Cartier Mining.
Many thanks to the caring staff at White Rapids Manor who went above and beyond during Betty’s eight years living there. A special thank you to Mary Wood, who sat with Betty in her final days and, as a full circle moment, was a flower girl in Betty and Tracy’s wedding in 1953.
A graveside service will be held in the spring led by Rev. James Harrison, her pastor of more than 25 years. For those who wish, donations may be made to White Rapids Manor.
