Obituary

In the care of her loving husband, the family wishes to announce the peaceful passing at home of Edith Lyle (Wood) Porter of Tracy, NB on May 14, 2023.  Edith was born in French Lake, NB on November 4, 1942, to the late Lena and Lee Wood.  She was the loving wife of Stephen Porter for over 20 years.

Along with her faithful husband Stephen, Edith is survived by her children; daughter Lisa (Todd) McLaughlin and son Jody (Camden) Myshrall, stepchildren; Stephanie (Tom) Parker and Scott (Erica) Porter, two beloved grandchildren; Chloe and Carlen McLaughlin, step-grandchildren; Sheldon (Emma) Parker, Atlin and Coal Anderson two brothers; Lebaron (Sandra) and Glendon Wood, a sister-in-law Diane Wood, and several nieces and nephews.

Edith grew up in French Lake and had many fond memories of a childhood spent with lots of siblings and outdoor adventures, swimming in the river and skating on the meadows.

She graduated from Geary Rural High School, attended Teacher’s College in Fredericton and started her teaching career in Keswick, then taught in Fredericton Junction for several years before leaving that profession to become a stay-at-home mom. As her children grew, she went back to work in retail and worked at Sunbury Drive Grocery, K-mart and Sobeys before retiring.

Edith loved the Lord, her family and friends, and hockey, especially the Toronto Maple Leafs.

She rarely missed a Leafs game and took great pleasure in yelling at them through the TV and commenting to all who would listen about how they should be playing. In typical Leafs fashion they let her down one more time before her passing.

Grammie adored spending time with her grandchildren and loved watching their hockey games and buying them treats. She never turned down a chance for a day trip with family.

“Edie” had an active social life with her circle of friends, she loved their card games, dominos and trips to Tim Hortons.

Edith was a faithful member of the Tracy United Baptist Church for many years and enjoyed participating in all church activities.

Besides her parents, Edith is predeceased by her sister Barbara (Gilbert) Moore, three brothers; Carl, Lester and Victor Wood, and a sister-in-law Mae Wood.

Family would appreciate any donations made in Edith’s name to the Tracy United Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.

Family and friends are invited to The Tracy United Baptist Church in Tracy, NB for a Funeral Service on Thursday May 18, 2023 at 11am with Rev. Maurice Hatfield officiating. A reception will follow the service in the church family center.

Arrangements are in the Professional Care of Sunbury Funeral Home, Central Blissville, NB (368-2413).
