Eric Chappelle Obituary

Chappelle, Eric

Eric (Rick) Chappelle, born July 20, 1956, passed peacefully after a long and courageous seven-year battle with cancer. In true Rick fashion, he gave it everything he had, meeting every challenge with strength, positivity, grit, and determination. In the end, it was not the illness itself, but the toll of the fight that gently carried him home.

Rick is survived by the love of his life and partner of 53 years, his “Sweetie,” Sandi. Together they built a life full of laughter, friendship, and quiet, meaningful moments—especially at their camp and out on the water. Sandi may have held the title for catching the biggest fish, but you can be sure Rick is already casting a line somewhere, determined to win it back.

He was a devoted father to Korilee (Dave) and Adam (Kim), and a proud Gramp to Reid (Morgan), Tristan, Grady, Cohen (Charly), Judith, Henry, and Analise. Rick was also a great-grandfather to Kane and Kara, and was eagerly awaiting the arrival of another great-grandchild this September. Though he was not able to meet this newest member of the family, that love was already there. His family was his world. Whether it was early morning drives to the rink, fixing what was broken, building what was needed, or simply showing up—Rick was always there. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for the people he loved.

Rick was predeceased by his father, William Chappelle. He leaves behind his beloved mother, Verna, as well as his siblings Kevin, Jody, and Cathy.

Rick’s working life was rooted in dedication and pride. He began his career as a truck driver, worked many roles along the way, and retired as a mechanic at CFB Gagetown. He took great pride in honest work and a job well done. Beyond his career, Rick was a man of many interests and talents. He was a natural builder and fixer, always happiest with something to tinker with. He found great joy spending time with Adam and Reid at the sawmill and working together in the garage. He enjoyed carpentry and any hands-on work, and fulfilled a lifelong dream of owning his own truck—keeping it polished to a shine. When the doors of Chappelle’s Country Café were open, you could find him with a coffee pot in hand, sharing stories and laughter. Rick loved the outdoors, working around his property and especially time spent fishing in his favourite hidden spots near camp. He had a passion for tractors, a knack for storytelling and jokes, and treasured time catching up with friends—whether over cards, at a car show, or just sharing a good story.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Audra MacAdams of the oncology team at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital for her compassion and care.

At Rick’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral. His family invites you instead to remember him in the way he lived—through stories and laughter shared.
