Gertrude Maynard Obituary

Gertrude Mary Edna Maynard

We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden death of Gert at the CCU SJRH on Saturday 7 February 2026.

Gert was born in Cork, NB, on 26 November 1939 to Irene (Crowley) and James Daley.

She will be dearly missed by her husband of 67 years, Stillman.

She leaves four children: Ron (Laurie) MacIntosh, Paula Daniels, Judy (Rick) Armstrong, and Michael (Kimberley).  She is also survived by her brothers Jack (Barbara) and Lester (Theresa) and sister-in- law Linda Daley, along with several nieces and nephews.

She was a loving Gram to Krista Baisley, Ranee & Connor MacIntosh, Matt (Megan) & Luke Armstrong, and Brennan (Kelly) Maynard; great-grandmother to Reilly, Zach (Emily), Mason, Anna, Cormac (and a sister due in July) & Madelyn; and a great-great-grandmother to Bryson (and a brother due in March).

In addition to her parents, Gert was predeceased by a brother Kevin (Nancy) Daley, a niece and nephews, brothers & sisters-in-law, her father-in-law and her beloved mother-in-law, Bernice.

Gert studied at Harvey High and in Saint John at the Mount Carmel Academy for Girls.  She made lifelong friendships there and learned to play bridge from the Nuns.

Gert’s activities included teaching contemporaries to drive, volunteering as an ambulance attendant, teaching CPR, and acting as President and a Lifetime Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Auxiliary Branch #55.  She studied to become an RNA in her adult years and worked in the profession, and she also enjoyed clogging, curling, and playing bingo.

Gert loved to read, and was a lifelong learner, keeping up with local and world news.

Gert & Stillman travelled across Canada by car and took an Alaskan cruise after retirement.  They travelled with their daughters to Ireland and Scotland. Gert “kissed the cod” in St. John’s and the Blarney Stone in Ireland.  She so loved travelling to Glace Bay, Cape Breton to visit with son Ron and his family.

Since 2023, she lived with and loved her fur grandson, Phil. He watched out for her often.

Gert was a woman of great faith and shared that in action and in love.  She loved her family and home above all.  She was a wonderful wife, mother, and friend.  All who knew Gert are truly blessed to have had her in their lives for as long as they did.  Always in our hearts and minds.

Family and friends are invited for Visitations at Sunbury Funeral Home on Thursday February 12, 2026, from 2-4 pm.
