McCONNELL, Gordon Wesley
Gordon McConnell, formerly of the Sand Brook Rd., Wirral, NB, and husband of the late Mary “Celia”, passed away at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on July 19th at age of 99. He is survived by his son, Doug (Rilla) of Fredericton, daughter Faye Murphy (Tony) of Dartmouth, NS; grandchildren Janice McConnell of Las Vegas, Susan McConnell-Pimentel of Toronto, Toni Eichhorn of Ottawa, Paul Eichhorn of Halifax; his sister Geraldine of Fredericton, and several nieces and nephews. Also, he was predeceased by his son Gerald, and sister, Miriam “June”.
Gordon was born on the Doak Road near Fredericton on June 27, 1916. He was the son of the late Roland McConnell and the late Charlotte (Lottie) Johnston. Gordon was a WWII veteran, a self-employed woods worker for several years, and he retired as a civilian employee at Base Gagetown after nearly 20 years of service. He was an avid hunter and knew the woods in Charlotte and Sunbury counties (upper Oromocto River watershed) like the back of his hand. He dearly loved his 200 acre woodlot and his home of nearly 70 years on the Sand brook Rd. He will be sadly missed by his family, and his neighbours who used to see him out on his several daily walks along the Sand Brook Rd before he moved to Fredericton in 2011. Also, he will be remembered by many at Ste. Anne’s Court in Fredericton. The family wishes to thank the staff of both Wellness Connection Inc. and Ste. Anne’s Court for their very professional and personalized care during the past four years. And thank you to the staff on 4SE at the DECH for their good care of Gordon and for assisting his family during the past two weeks.
Gordon’s wish is there be no visitation, only a committal memorial by his immediate family at the Hoyt Baptist Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at sunburyfuneralhome.com (368-2413)
