Karen Briggs Obituary

Karen Josephine (Smith) Briggs

May 5, 1947 – September 5, 2025

The family of Karen Josephine (Smith) Briggs sadly announces her passing on September 5th, 2025, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton, NB. Born on May 5th, 1947, Karen was the daughter of the late Marilyn (Walker) and Lowell Smith. She was the devoted wife of Gil Briggs, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and companionship.

Karen will be dearly missed by her husband Gil and their children: Gina Waite, Tammy (Douglas) Jones, and Kenneth (Jennifer) Briggs. She also leaves behind her beloved sisters, Nancy (Stephen) MacLeod and Susan (Tony) O’Connell; seven cherished grandchildren: Allyssa, Kevin, Kiera, MacKenzie, Keagan, Owen, and Kayla; step-grandchildren Leisa and Amy; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Karen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She found joy in the company of her grandchildren, who never failed to bring a smile to her face. She enjoyed traveling, camping, doing puzzles, and as a proud Bluenoser, she loved the ocean and a good feed of lobster.

Karen was a dedicated member of her community—serving with the Legion Auxiliary and as a Board Member of Legion Estates. Her kindness, warmth, and service will be remembered by all who knew her.

Karen was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Rosemary (Ernest) Lamrock, in addition to her parents.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, September 10th, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Gladstone Legion (Branch 55) in Fredericton Junction. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Karen’s memory.

Arrangements are in the Professional Care of Sunbury Funeral Home, Central Blissville, NB (368-2413). Condolences:sunburyfuneralhome.com
