Roy Alexander Johnston

Roy Alexander Johnston of Hoyt, NB died peacefully at home on February 17, 2025.  He was born on October 30, 1953 in Saint John, NB to the late Frances (Stewart Harron) and Fred Johnston of Hoyt.

He was survived by his wife of 40 years Kathy (Gillett) Johnston, his sons; Tim Johnston (Melissa) of Hoyt and Keith Johnston (Jessy) of Rogersville.  He loved every minute spent with his two special granddaughters Jenica and Eva, and his grandson Jack, his little buddy, who followed him everywhere.  He is also survived by brothers John (Janet) and Ronald, sisters; Ellie (Bob) and Lanie (Coop); father-in-law George Gillett, brother-in-law Ricky (Gail) and sisters-in-law; Brenda, Pam and Sherry, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends.

Along with his parents, Roy was also predeceased by his mother-in-law Anna Gillett and brothers-in-law; Al Eldridge and Randy Gillett.

Roy loved to be outside; and any day he could be found cutting wood, doing barn work, tinkering in his shop, or tending to his prized gardens with Jack underfoot. He loved his time in the shop and welcomed anyone in for a quick chat while something was being fixed.  He also loved his time spent with his second family: The Tyremans.

Following Roy’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral at this time.  A Graveside Service with a Celebration of Life will take place in the spring.   Please look for the updated Obituary on Sunbury Funeral Home’s Website and Facebook pages for the date and times. His interment will be in the Patterson United Church Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the Hoyt Fire Department and Ambulance NB for their prompt response and attention to the family.

Memorial donations can be made in Roy’s name to the White Rapids Manor Mini Bus Fund or a charity of your choice.

Arrangements are in the professional care of Sunbury Funeral Home, Central Blissville, NB (506-368-2413).  www.sunburyfuneralhome.com
