The family of Shirley Ann (Ball) Smith of Harvey, NB regretfully announce her passing at Hospice House Fredericton on July 27th, 2023. Shirley was born is Rusagonis, NB to the late Walter Hazen Ball and Minnie Mae (Artes) on May 11, 1938. Shirley was the loving wife of her late husband Donald George Smith of Fredericton Junction, NB.
Shirley has left to mourn her children, Donald Lynn Smith and Lana (Michael) Cain, all of Harvey, as well as her sister Patricia Tracy of Kitchener, ON.
Shirley moved to Harvey following Don’s passing in 2012 to be closer to her children but spent most of her life in Fredericton Junction. Her career as a teacher spanned many decades, generations and local schools. After her retirement she and Don spent a lot of time at their cottage at Yoho Lake and both loved it dearly. She was an avid armchair sports fan and spent a lot of time cheering on her Toronto Blue Jays or taking in some curling.
A private person by nature Shirley would want her death to be the same. There will be no public visitation or funeral. The family would like to offer their thanks to Dr. Daniel Fletcher of Harvey for his constant care and assistance to Shirley and her family. Thank you to Hospice House for your outpouring of support and for taking care of Mum during her final days with the care and compassion that you all possess.
Donations in Shirley’s memory can be made to Hospice Fredericton or an animal charity of your choice.
