Obituary

Campbell, Wayne

With great sadness, the family of Wayne Wilfred Campbell of Fredericton, NB, wish to announce his peaceful passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital surrounded by his family on February 1, 2023.  Wayne was born in Arthurette, NB on March 9, 1936 to the late Frances (Wright) and Wilfred Campbell.  He was the loving husband of Donna Campbell for over 62 years.

Along with his wife, he is survived by his two children, Kevin (Norma) Campbell and April (Dwight) Doyle, six grandchildren; Janice (Aaron), Amanda, Westin (Candice), Jasmin (Jeremy), Lucas (Monica) and Nikki, five great-grandchildren, his siblings; Ward, Naida and Lee, and several nieces and nephews.

Wayne was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.  He thoroughly enjoyed family get togethers and playing with the children.  As a young man, Wayne joined the military and was a member of the Signal Corp for six years and was posted to Kingston On.  Deciding not to continue his career in the military, Wayne and Donna returned to Fredericton, where he joined the Fredericton Fire Department, and had a long and fulfilling career as a fire fighter until retirement in May 1995. Wayne and Donna enjoyed traveling and made many trips south.  One of Wayne’s many enjoyments was just to go for a drive, stop at Tim’s for a coffee or get an ice cream cone, and his family would say that he knew the longest way to get anywhere! As well, Wayne enjoyed bowling, shuffle Board and playing cards in his spare time.

Including his parents, Wayne is also predeceased by his sister Thelma.

Family and friends are invited to Gibson Memorial United Church, 183 Gibson St, Fredericton NB on Tuesday February 7, 2023, for a Celebration of Wayne’s Life at 2pm with Rev. Ian Manson officiating. Interment will be in the spring.  Donations in Wayne’s name would be appreciated by the family to The Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital Foundation or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Arrangements are in the professional care of Sunbury Funeral Home, 5407 Route 101, Central Blissville, NB (368-2413). Condolences: sunburyfuneralhome.com
