Cabatu, Dr. Moises Duque – With great sadness, we announce the passing of Dr. Moises Cabatu, at the Saint John Regional Hospital on April 14, 2015. Moises was born in the Philippines on November 25, 1924 to the late Beatriz Duque and Mamerto Cabatu.

Moises was a loving husband, father and Lolo (grandfather).  He leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Edith (Judy), his children Alanna (Chris Glenn), Michael (Pat), Elissa (John Vine) and his treasured grandchildren Aria Cabatu and Liam Vine.

Dr. Moises D Cabatu graduated in 1952 from the University of Santo Tomas, Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at Manila in the Philippines.  After graduation, Dr. Cabatu remained in the Philippines to work as a rural health physician for two years.

His internship and residency training took place in the United States, Ontario and New Brunswick between 1954 to 1962  in the fields of Family Practice, General Surgery, Neurosurgery and Pathology.  He obtained his LMCC in 1963.

For 40 years, Dr. Cabatu practiced as a Family Physician in Fredericton.  During this time he served for several years as a staff physician at the Stan Cassidy Rehabilitation Centre; five years as the Department of Indian Affairs designated physician for the Kingsclear and St. Mary’s Reserves;  five years as a staff physician for the New Brunswick Addiction Centre; and 30 years as a Transport Canada designated Civil Aviation Medical Examiner for Fredericton and surrounding areas.

Dr. Cabatu was a life member of the New Brunswick Medical Society, and was a member of the Canadian Medical Association.  In 2001, he retired from active practice.

At Mo’s request there will be no visitations or Funeral.  If you wish to remember him, you may make a donation to the Oromocto SPCA. Arrangements are in the care of Sunbury Funeral Home, Blissville, NB.
